The Fixed Gear in Popular Culture pt II
Richard D sent this animated gif of a fixie guy wrecking himself in traffic. The upload date on this video says 2010, so its at least that old. 2006/2007 is when the real huge crossover from “street wear and sneakers” to “fixie” happened. No offense to any people who came out of that mess and are still into bikes, it’s all part of the cycle.
But, you dudes were so clueless and lame it was ridiculous.
I don’t think any of you were purposefully thinking “Let’s make track bikes wack.” But you did. What you were probably thinking was something like “I really want a track bike that looks like a Dyno freestle BMX bike so I can get epic and skid while I wear a flat brimmed baseball hat.” or maybe “I need a bike with some rims to match my limited release Nike Dunks and t-shirt.”
And that’s cool. Really totally cool.
Anyway-I’m a real big fan of this gif because the guy that crashes himself has the stupid mag wheel. It’s like watching your art come to life.
“Eey bruv, why don’t you film us skidding and stuff from the boot of your car?”
“This puddle of oil and rainwater will make fine skidding material mate.”
“Here I go, locking my legs, bout to do an epic skid mate”
“…hhhhffffffuck. Not my mag wheeeeeel!”
“You ain’t no messenger bruv.” says the van driver
(yeah yeah I know it’s not London, but “bruv” is really the best pronunciation of “bro” out there. You tell me where it is, I can’t tell from the pixels. )
